The One Piece manga has suddenly called for a two-week-long hiatus starting this week.

One of the most influential manga of all time, Eiichiro Oda’s One Piece first debuted in 1997 and has been going strong for 27 years now. During this time, it has amassed a humongous number of fans who eagerly wait for each new chapter. The hype for the manga is now greater than ever as it’s finally entered the much-anticipated Elbaf Arc.

However, not everything has been rosy in the past 27 years. The author has had to take multiple hiatuses for health reasons. Unfortunately, this has become more frequent than ever in the past year. The manga recently took a long break from October 20 to November 10, 2024 (between Chapters 1130 and 1131).

Now, before the release of Chapter 1132 on November 17, One Piece has announced an extended break due to undisclosed reasons. The manga will return with Chapter 1132 on December 1, 2024, instead.

Fans are worried about One Piece creator

The announcement of the long hiatus has fans worried about Oda’s health, especially since the One Piece just came back from its extended break. This is even more so after the author’s note at the end of Chapter 1131 states: “I went to South Africa!! I’m returning with a renewed sense of gratitude and a determination to do my very best!!”

Many are taking to social media to wish the author good health and advise him to take a proper rest. As one X wrote, “I hope it’s not health problems.”

“Hopefully Oda is ok, he deserves every break he can get considering how much he achieved so far!” added another.

“What is happening to One Piece?? The anime stopped, and I’m really afraid it won’t be the same after it comes back, and now the manga is stopping after each chapter!” joined a third.

One fan shared their thoughts on the pace of the manga and the inclusion of the backstories of significant characters (like Zoro) in the SBS: “And this is why I don’t get why ppl get so mad when Oda puts some backstories or flashbacks details to non-main plot developments in a SBS.

“Do I want to see them in the manga? Sure. But he’s on now on pace to do 32 chapters max this year for the 2nd consecutive year. He’s averaged 33 chaps per year since the pandemic vs the 43 he avg the prior 22 years.

“I’m sure he’d love to put all these SBS reveals in the manga, but 27 years in the fucking Weekly Shounen manga game pushing 50 with no truly extended hiatuses (1 month doesn’t really qualify) I get why he’s streamlining some non-main plot relevant content at the endgame.

Hope all is well.”
