As one of the famous dark fantasy manga and anime series, Gege Akutami’s Jujutsu Kaisen captures audiences with its action-packed storyline and supernatural elements. It is set in a world where cursed spirits and sorcerers co-exist together to balance the world. Cruses and Jujutsu sorcerers often fight each other. The Cruses aim to take control of the world by eliminating humanity, while the Jujutsu sorcerers want to keep humanity safe from the Cruses.
Jujutsu Kaisen’s story revolves around the mysterious Finger Talisman, a Cruse object belonging to Ryomen Sukuna (the King of Cruses.) During the Golden Age of Jujutsu, the Heian Era, Sukuna was not defeated by anyone, including the most powerful sorcerers.
After splitting his soul into twenty fingers, Jujutsu sorcerers sealed Sukuna’s fingers by wrapping cursed objects in talismans. Those twenty fingers are considered the First Class Cruse Object, so Cruses are attracted to the spirit energy emitted from the object. As a means of saving the world, several sorcerers embark on a quest to find all the fingers before Cruses captures them.
Before sorcerers find it, Itadori Yuji consumes it as a last resort to save his friend from a Cruse attack and transforms into the vessel of Ryomen Sukuna (King of the Cruses.) And that’s how Sukuna was reborn into the world of living after 1000 years, and his plan to dominate the world began.
What Is Talisman In Jujutsu Kaisen?
If you’d even streamed a single season of Jujutsu Kaisen, you’d know that these talismans are sort of like paper tags mixed with cursed energy and techniques. Moreover, they also play a huge role in the entire saga. We see many varieties of them in the story, out of which finger talismans are the most important, and must-have for sorcerers and curses. Many call them the remnants of the cursed fingers of Ryomen Sukuna (the King of Cruses). If you don’t know, Ryomen Sukuna is one of the most powerful characters that we’ve come across in all two seasons.
Sukuna’s fingers are overflowing with cursed energy, often sealed and dispersed to make sure they don’t destroy the world. You must have noticed that Jujutsu Sorcerers use talismans in different ways. Many use them to create a barrier, buff their powers, cast spells, and the list just goes on. Talismans, especially those fingered ones are the most sought-after objects in Jujutsu Kaisen. If you’ve even one of these, you’ll be a walking tank, nearly impossible to stop. But make no mistake, these finger talismans are dangerous to humanity, which makes handling them a big responsibility.
First Appearance Of Finger Talismans In Jujutsu Kaisen
As discussed earlier, finger talismans are an FCCO (first-class cursed object), and one of the most powerful tools. Each of them contains some part of Ryomen Sukuna’s soul, and if not handled with care, can turn the whole world into ashes. We see one of these finger talismans just at the beginning of the anime, and also the episodes that followed. Yuji’s high school pals found a Sakuna finger talisman, not knowing what it was. Like the cat who was killed by curiosity, the students accidentally release the negative energy, and in a snap, the entire building is overrun with dark spirits. Knowing they didn’t stand a chance against the spirits, Yuji literally ate the finger talisman. Yuji gains superhuman strength and speed and also becomes a vessel to hold Sakuna’s curse, and the rest is history.
