Synopsis
Dan da Dan starts off with Momo Ayase who finds herself looking after a boy who is bullied, after she was rejected for confessing to her crush. She contemplates on finding her prince, and a knight in shining armor, wondering where her ‘Mr. Ken’ is while the boy she saved, tries to talk to her. He is an alien-obsessed boy, more or less having a nerdy obsession with extraterrestrial beings and their findings. While he keeps imposing his opinions and beliefs, Momo instead retariates stating that she is a believer of ghosts while he insists that such elements don’t exist.
With proceeding arguments, they both agree on a deal to visit places where both aliens and ghosts could be found – with Momo visiting the extraterrestrial location and the boy visiting the supernatural location. Both their theories prove to be right as they both encounter aliens and ghosts co-existing in the human realm.
- Written and illustrated by Yukinobu Tatsu
- Directed by Fuga Yamashiro
- Music by Kansuke Ushio
- Production studio – Science Saru.
Though the plot starts off with fantastical elements and themes that are common in every other anime, Dan da Dan proves to be an engaging watch, as Momo Ayase and Ken work together to lead a normal life amongst the extraterrestrial beings and changes happening within themselves because of it.

Recap and review of episodes so far:
Episode 1 starts off with a combination of weird, yet horrifying visuals of aliens and ghosts, with the comic timing of characters that have powers which are both psychic and transcendental. Whole Momo is abducted by a bunch of aliens, the boy (Ken Takakura) gets possessed by a spirit ( apparently a horny ghost called ‘Turbo Granny’). The abduction of Momo accidentally indices a switch in her making her reveal her psychedelic chakras and powers, which also helps keep Ken intact without letting the spirit consume his body and soul.
Momo on discovering her powers, wonder whether her granny who has psychic powers could help Ken get rid of his curse or possession of the ghost. With the introduction of granny, we get to see the staple manga and anime interpretation of a hot granny who is open about talking and having discussions regarding sex, body parts and other things which people consider taboo or shy away from speaking out loud. The possession of spirit in Ken’s body leave him with no man-body parts, making up for most of the comic conversations and delivery in an animated way.
The latest episode 5 brought both Momo and Ken ( named by Momo as ‘Okarun’) back to school after their meet with Granny and much more clarity regarding their situation since the mishap from episode 1. Both Momo and Okarun clearly wish to socialise and be friends with each other, but both have their own doubts and insecurities stopping them from doing so. Momo inadvertently speaks bad about Ken and on feeling disheartened, he visits the bathroom where he has an encounter with a pink haired girl. But her ill intentions get revealed when she is hit by a washbasin, indicating ‘what you sow so shall you reap’. Momo helps Ken reach home and also gets the help of Seiko (her granny) to lift the curse off Ken. Seiko helps Momo in making her use her Aura to take the spirit out of Okarun.
The spirit leaves Okarun and shifts to a cat ornament or a doll object which was visible in most shots and comes at the end credit song. The Turbo Granny offers to return back Ken’s anatomy only if he exercises revenge on Momo and Seiko on her behalf, which Ken refuses. The episode ends in a cliff hanger where it’s revealed that the Turbo Granny’s power is still in Okarun’s body, but her spirit was exorcised. A deal was made between them where Turbo Granny agreed to give back Okarun’s anatomy only if she gets her powers back. But with her not knowing to reverse the curse, this is going to take a roundabout time and journey to get back to normal Okarun’s body.
