Events and Consequences of Season 1

The strong discord between two cities – Piltover and Zaun is evident right from the start as the series opens with our main characters, Vi and Powder (called ‘Jinx’ later on). The sister duo are taken up under the guidance of Vander, who’s a revolutionary leader of Zaun after their parents are killed in a war that takes place within Zaun. Fast forward to several years, we see Vi, Powder, Claggor and Mylo (their adoptive brothers) on a resolve to loot an apartment, apparently a heist in a Piltover apartment. They plan on stealing some equipment but luckily miss getting busted when Powder accidentally drops a magic mysterious crystal which blows up a part of the building.

On reaching home, they get reprimanded by Vander for the sketchy situation created by them. Though Vi assures Vander that they didn’t steal anything, Powder later reveals about the crystals she took. Vander is approached by the upper city (Piltover) Enforcers investigating the explosion. Grayson (the Sheriff) and her assistant Enforcer Marcus, leave after trying to persuade him to contact them in case of any information, which is overhead by Ekko. There is a gang in the locality which bullies Vi and her gang, and they are interrogated by Silco, a scarred face man. He gets the information about Vi and the gang causing the explosion, and we get to see him experimenting with a material called Shimmer, which makes a rat so powerful that it kills a cat.

With such a strong opening and multiple layers and characters to the cast, the Arcane picked up the pace after three episodes where things started to take a mysterious yet an interesting turn towards a new world and plot. It is revealed that Jayce’s apartment is where the robbery took place and he had an interest in magic since young. He is arrested and detained for his use of mystical elements by the Enforcers, and causing destruction to public property. The Piltover Councilor – Heimerdinger tries to convince Jayce not to mention magic during his trial. But he is saved owing to his mother’s testimony after confessing to such an act of magic.

And Vi takes a dire decision of surrendering herself, because of the continuing attack by the Enforcers on Zaun and her gang, because of the explosion accident. It is later revealed that due to Vander’s action in being a reformative leader, her parents were killed in the war. On the other side, Jayce becomes heartbroken after his failed engagement with his partner, Caitlyn and his failure to commit to his dream. Viktor agrees to help Jayce with his crystals, while Marcus is informed by Silco about the association of Vi and the gang causing the explosion. Vander tries to stop Vi from surrendering and locks her in the basement. He turns himself in, but is ambushed by Silco and other Enforcers who are under the influence of Shimmer.

Ekko saves Vi from the basement and they along with Mylo and Claggor step up to rescue Vander, and Vi informs Powder to stay put. But Powder on having the confidence about he crystals plans to join Vi and the gang to save Vander. Jayce along with Viktor, and with the help of Mel Medarda, work on making the crystals experiment successful and names it – Hextech. In Zaun, Vander is caught by Silco and Silco’s past is revealed where Vander was the one who tried to drown Silco. Vander discovers Vi’s plan to save him, and tries to interrupt her and her brothers, but instead is killed in the battle and explosion caused by Powder. Mylo and Clogger are dead as well, but Vi escapes and reunites with Powder. When Powder reveals about her involvement in the explosion, Vi gets angry, hurts Powder, calls her a ‘jinx’ and leave her behind.

And this starts the spiral and the shift in the relationship between Powder and Vi, where they both are at the opposite end of the battle. Episode 4- 9 focuses on this drift, and how the time skip made Powder into Jinx, becoming the ultimate character champion against Vi. Cut to many years later after the death of Vander, Jayce becomes one of a high profile citizen because of his scientific discoveries and inventions. He gets to the status of a Councilor and his fiance, Caitlyn is also a high profile Enforcer. Jinx steals the Hextech Gem during an event by causing an explosion, and though Silco seems disappointed at first, he rejoices later to find the crystals with Jinx.

And Viktor, who is working on a new project names Hexcore (similar to Jayce’s work) meets with failure after failure in his project and as he passes out of exhaustion, his blood has contact with Hexcore. Upon further investigation in Zaun, Vi gets to know that Jinx is working under Silco now.

Jinx who thinks that Vi has abandoned her, has become a different version than Powder and Silco is making the best use out of it, to meet his personal goals. He manipulate Jinx into becoming something opposite tjnher old version, making Jinx grow more resentment towards Vi and her younger self. Silco gets to know of Vi’s return into town and tries his best to keep them out of the city. After multiple interceptions and character backtracks, Vi and Jinx reunite before they could be taken down by the Firelights. Jinx misinterprets Vi as she is working with an Enforcer. The Firelights leader is noone else but Ekko, who fills in Vi about the details of the city and other incidents during her absence. Vi insists to get back to her sister and also return the Hextech Gem to the Piltover Council by exposing the evil plans of Silco

The following events bring in power, revenge, jealousy and drama into the series making it for a more interesting and thrilling watch as the sisters face-off each other. We can look forward to the further roles and characters arcs of Viktor and Jayce and Jayce’s relationship with Mel. A new relationship has started to bloom from season 1 being Caitlyn and Vi, and viewers can get to see their diverse live equation in the battle and final installment.
