In Chapter 1122, Emet apologizes to Joyboy for failing to make him King. Emet doesn’t clarify the kind of King Joyboy wants to be, but his statement draws the attention of Luffy, who once again proclaims his dream of becoming the King of the Pirates. The chapter concludes with Luffy and his friends escaping the island after Emmet releases a massive wave of Haki.

However, seeing that the Joyboy was the first pirate, it’s unlikely that his dream is to become the King of the Pirates like Luffy. Regardless of what kind of King he wishes to be, his dream proves that Luffy is not his true successor, as Luffy stated many times in the series that he does not wish to be the hero and so will not be able to fulfil Joyboy’s dream.

One Piece Teases Joyboy’s Dream is Different From Luffy’s

Chapter 1122 concluded the Egg Head arc with the Straw Hats and Giant Pirates escaping from the land after Emet realised massive Haki, forcing the Four Elders back to their base. This chapter also confirms that Joyboy and Luffy share the same dream of becoming the King, but the kind is different.

From the chapter start, we’re shown that Joyboy dreamed of becoming the King of sorts seems like Luffy is another thing that he and Luffy had in common, especially given the reaction of Luffy at first. However, it is essential to note that Luffy’s dream is not to become the King of the Pirates but only the stepping stone toward his actual dream teased at the end of the Wano arc.

He might need the title of the “King of the Pirates” to fulfil his actual dream. Do not know what it is? But many fans speculating that it is related to the Grand Line. It also does not make sense that Joyboy wants to be the King of the Pirates. This title doesn’t make sense during the Void Century.

If so, Joyboy’s dream is certainly something else entirely, and based on many hints provided about Joyboy in the series, his dream is quite an influential one, such as maybe wanting to be the King of the World like Rock D. Xebec. Having such an influential dream makes sense as to why twenty kingdoms come together against the Joyboy and the Ancient Kingdom and why Imu’s existence is kept such a tight secret.

Joyboy left the cryptic apology to Fishman Island, and the fact that he emulated Nika, the Sun God, suggested that he likely had good motives for wanting to be the King. He wants to be the King of Everything to provide equality and freedom to everyone. However, this much make Joyboy a hero who fights for the weak, which Luffy certainly doesn’t want to be.
