Fans of romantic anime are in for a treat as the beloved office romance manga ‘I Have a Crush at Work’ is finally getting an anime adaptation in Winter 2025.
Adapted from Akamaru Enomoto’s original manga of the same name, the I Have a Crush at Work anime series will premiere on January 6, 2025. The manga was first released in March 2019 and ran for four successful years with 148 chapters and 15 volumes. The series finally concluded in January 2023.
During its serialization, the manga was published in Morning, Kodansha’s weekly seinen manga magazine. In February 2024, Kodansha USA began publishing the series digitally in English. With a new home and a wider demographic, the series became more popular than ever.
The anime adaptation of the office romance manga was first announced in July 2024. So far, the I Have a Crush at Work anime has revealed the voice actors of the central cast, the director, the scriptwriter, the character designer, and the music director, as well as two trailers. Recently, the opening and ending themes of the upcoming show have also been announced.
Plot
Kodansha USA’s official synopsis of I Have a Crush at Work says:
“Yui Mitsuya and Masugu Tateishi aren’t just any coworkers—they totally have the hots for each other. His helpful yet humble attitude makes her giddy, and her cuteness leaves him grinning like a fool. Problem is, they’re trying to keep their new relationship under wraps to avoid making things awkward at work. But seeing how they can’t keep their hands off each other, they run the risk of spilling their little secret with each passing day at the office.”
Cast and Crew
The central couple of the anime – Yui and Masugu – will be voiced by Yume Miyamoto and Seiichirou Yamashita, respectively. Miyamoto is known for her role as Rikka Takarada, one of the main characters of the SSSS.Gridman franchise. She’s also voiced characters like Rouge Redstar in Metallic Rouge and Raeliana McMillan in Why Raeliana Ended up at the Duke’s Mansion.
Yamashita, on the other hand, has provided his voice for Cid Kagenou in The Eminence in Shadow, Geten in My Hero Academia, Edward Midford in Black Butler, and Kakucho in Tokyo Revengers.
The rest of the characters are voiced by the following voice actors:
- Yukiko Sakura – Sora Tokui (known for Akari Nitta in Jujutsu Kaisen)
- Seiya Suzuki – Kensho Ono (known for Giorno Giovanna in JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure Part 5: Golden Wind, Tetsuya Kuroko in Kuroko’s Basketball, Ryuunosuke Akutagawa in Bungo Stray Dogs, etc.)
- Hiromi Kiribayashi – Sinichiro Miki (known for Roy Mustang in Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, Keisuke Urahara in Bleach, Tatsuma Sakamoto in Gintama, etc.)
- Chiharu Utou – Misaki Watada (known for Futari Gotou in Bocchi the Rock!)
- Itsurou Mita – Kentarou Tone (known for Happy in Mission: Yozakura Family)
- Keisuke Somei – Reiou Tsuchida (known for Tsukasa Suou in Ensemble Stars!!)
- Shizuno Hayakawa – Shizuka Itou (known for Kabura Honda in Call of the Night)
- Maria Morizono – You Taichi (known for Kiria Nisino in Rising Impact)
Known animation studio Blade is producing the anime adaptation of I Have a Crush at Work. Naoko Takeichi – who has previously served as the key animator in Steins;Gate, Akame ga Kill!, and Maid Sama! – is helming the project as the director. Masanori Tsuchiya, Mina Oosawa, and Nobutaka Maki are in charge of sound direction, character design, and editing, respectively.
The opening and ending themes of the upcoming office romance anime are “Ano ne” by Polkadot Stingray and “Futarijime” by pachae, respectively.
