Highlights
The Saga of Tanya the Evil Season 2 is all set to grace the screens soon as the sequel anime is already in production.
While there is no shortage of anime in the isekai subgenre, few take a dark route, and even fewer feature a villainous character as the protagonist. This is where the Saga of Tanya the Evil sets itself apart from the rest. Its unique approach and ruthless setting have garnered a loyal fanbase that is looking forward to the upcoming second season.
Adapted from the light novel of the same name – written by Carlo Zen and illustrated by Shinobu Shinotsuki – the anime series debuted in 2017 and ran for 12 episodes. The show received generally positive responses from viewers, with a 7.96 rating on MyAnimeList.
The fantasy action anime was succeeded by a canon film in February 2019, simply titled Saga of Tanya the Evil: The Movie. The much-awaited anime movie was widely praised by fans and critics. The same year the anime’s second season was announced by the makers.
Since then, the sequel has been in production with no updates on its upcoming release date. There were a lot of expectations of it releasing in late 2023 or early 2024. However, the status of the upcoming anime still remains a mystery with no further news on its debut date.
But while viewers wait for the Saga of Tanya the Evil Season 2, they can go back to watch the first season and the movie on streaming platforms. The anime’s official synopsis on Crunchyroll reads:
“It is June of the year CE 1923. A young girl with blond hair and blue eyes, Tanya Degurechaff, has entered the final curriculum of the Imperial Military Academy and is training at the third patrol line in the northern military district, the Norden Theater, as part of her service to the force. Her training, the first step toward a brilliant career as an aviation mage, should have gone off without a hitch… but things took an unexpected turn.”
