While there is no shortage of anime in the isekai subgenre, few take a dark route, and even fewer feature a villainous character as the protagonist. This is where the Saga of Tanya the Evil sets itself apart from the rest. Its unique approach and ruthless setting have garnered a loyal fanbase that is looking forward to the upcoming second season.

Adapted from the light novel of the same name – written by Carlo Zen and illustrated by Shinobu Shinotsuki – the anime series debuted in 2017 and ran for 12 episodes. The show received generally positive responses from viewers, with a 7.96 rating on MyAnimeList.

The fantasy action anime was succeeded by a canon film in February 2019, simply titled Saga of Tanya the Evil: The Movie. The much-awaited anime movie was widely praised by fans and critics. The same year the anime’s second season was announced by the makers.
