Private Tutor to the Duke’s Daughter Anime Unveils Character Trailer and July 5 Television Premiere

The official social media account for the anime adaptation of Riku Nanano and illustrator cura’s light novel series “Private Tutor to the Duke’s Daughter” (Kōjo Denka no Kateikyōshi) released a character promotional video on Sunday showcasing Allen, voiced by Yūto Uemura. The video also confirmed the series will debut on July 5. The production team plans to release additional character videos every Saturday and Sunday throughout June.

Production Staff: Nobuyoshi Nagayama, known for “Vampire Dormitory” and “Smile Down the Runway,” directs the series at Studio Blanc, with Kazuya Ishiguri serving as assistant director. Series composition is handled by Megumi Shimizu (“Banished from the Hero’s Party,” “My Next Life as a Villainess: All Routes Lead to Doom!”), while character designs are created by Akiko Toyoda (“Girlfriend, Girlfriend”). The musical score is composed by Kei Haneoka (“Kaguya-sama: Love is War,” “UQ Holder!”).

Additional production roles include Sayaka Takemoto as sub-character designer, Chousuke Ooide handling prop design, Natsumi Yamada for clothing design, and Junko Nagasawa managing background art. Yoshimi Umino serves as art director, with Yuka Yamaya overseeing color design and Shigenori Toyooka directing photography.

Story Overview (via J-Novel Club): The narrative follows Allen, an aspiring sorcerer who fails his royal court examination and seeks a quiet countryside life but lacks even basic travel funds. His financial solution comes through an unconventional tutoring position with Duke Howard, one of the kingdom’s most influential nobles, who requires instruction for his daughter Tina.

Despite her exceptional academic abilities, Tina cannot perform even basic magic spells. With entrance examinations for the elite Royal Academy approaching—where magical competency is essential—Allen must utilize his distinctive spellcasting methods to address Tina’s mysterious magical limitations, a puzzle that has stumped the kingdom’s most skilled sorcerers. The question remains whether her father, the duke, actually desires Allen’s success.

Publication History: Nanano initially published the story on the Kakuyomu platform beginning October 2017, with the most recent update occurring October 5. Kadokawa started print publication in December 2018, releasing the 19th volume on April 18. A manga adaptation by Tamura Mutō launched in Shōnen Ace Plus during September 2019, with Kadokawa publishing the fourth manga volume in February 2024.
