Dragon Ball: 4 Most Beloved Anime Characters That Aren’t Saiyans

Akira Toriyama’s Dragon Ball is the face of Shonen anime, entertaining audiences of almost three decades and counting. The anime introduced several characters like Goku, Gohan, and Vegeta, who instantly became fan favourites.

These Saiyans have saved the Earth from destruction on numerous occasions. However, there are other characters who are not Saiyans but help save the Earth. Due to their helpful nature, these non-Saiyan characters have come to the limelight and become the fan’s favourites.

Dragon Ball is famous for its overpowerful characters, yet fans have more attached to certain characters than others. Here are the most beloved non-Saiyan characters:

Piccolo

Piccolo, the son of King Piccolo, enters Dragon Ball as an evil force seeking revenge on Goku for his father’s death. After Goku sacrifices himself against Raditz, Piccolo accepts him as a friend and takes Gohan under his wing. He treated Gohan like his own son and later became a trusted ally of Goku’s team. Piccolo is one of the best non-Saiyan characters and is close to Toriyama.

Although Saiyans are more popular than Namekians, fans are always hungry to see more of Piccolo in anime.

One of the most iconic villains, Frieza, was introduced as a cruel dictator who destroyed planets for his entertainment. He was the one who destroyed the planet Vegeta and killed the Saiyans. However, this action was nothing compared to what he did later in the series.

In the Namek saga, Frieza single-handedly caused so much trouble for the heroes that Goku had to go Super Saiyan. Even after his defeat on Namek, Frieza still had the audacity to challenge Goku on Earth. Unfortunately, before he faces Goku, Future Trunks kills him for the good.

It has been reported that Frieza’s popularity among fans has led to his revival in Dragon Ball Super.

Krillin

Among Earth’s best fighters, Krillin is considered one of the few who can put his life on the line for the sake of humanity. In the Saiyan Saga, Krillin is one of the few characters to survive a face-off with the Saiyans. Others are Gohan, Yajirobe and Goku. During the battle with Frieza, Krillin did an excellent job assisting Vegeta and after Gohan.

He was the one who forced Goku to transform into Super Saiyan. Watching Goku and his friendship from the start of Dragon Ball is worth it.

Master Roshi

Certainly, Master Roshi is one of the most beloved non-Saiyan characters in Dragon Ball. Debuted in the #3 episode of the series, Master Roshi was the one who trained Goku and taught him his legendary move ‘Kamehameha.’ Later on, Goku defeated many foes with this move.

In the Tournament of Power, where everyone tries to keep their universe safe, Master Roshi impresses the God of Destruction with five eliminations. It was more than Piccolo and Krillin.

Despite his age, Roshi can go toe-to-toe against Goku in his base Super Saiyan Form. Moreover, his carefree nature makes him a fan favorite.
