Galaxy Impact is one of the devastating Haki attacks in the series and the only named attack used by Monkey D. Grap. This attack was powerful enough to destroy an entire island with a single blow. While saving Koby from Pirates, Grap, for the first time, launched a named attack called ‘Galaxy Impact,’ which brought massive destruction to Hachinosu island and shocked others. After witnessing the destruction and fear between pirates of his name, One Piece fans have wondered how powerful Monely D Grap is. Thankfully, the wait is over as the recent episode of the One Piece anime finally raised the curtain on this mystery.
Being Luffy’s grandfather and Dragon’s father, Monkey D. Garp belongs to the most powerful family. Luffy and Dragon are the two most powerful characters in the series, one being the Yanko while the other is the most wanted criminal. Moreover, Grap is considered the Marine Hero — fought against Gol D. Roger and never lost the fight. With all this in mind, it’s safe to say that Grap is one of the most powerful characters in the series. He is one of the few characters who is not afraid of the Celestial Dragon.
Blackbeard wanted to make Hachinosu a nation allied to the World Government, an ambitious dream. In most cases, the World Government wouldn’t consider talking to such dangerous pirates, but this is where Koby came in. Given his status as the hero, the World government would be forced to do something about it. However, Koby was a part of SWORD, so the Marines and World government could ignore him. Luckily, Grap was ready to save his beloved pupil. He took some young Marines and headed to Hachinosu.

Grap Uses Galaxy Impact For The First Time
In episode 1114 of One Piece, as Grap and the Marines drew closer to Hachinosu, they began implementing their plans. Prince Grus, Hibari, and Kujaku trapped the pirates and cleared the way for Grap to launch his attack. When Grap got the confirmation that everything was set, he jumped from the ship and covered his right hand with the combination of Conqueror Haki and Armament Haki to be ready to launch Galaxy Impact.
When the Vice Admiral landed the attack, the entire town was demolished. Both pirates and Marines were shocked after witnessing the incredible power of the Marine Hero. Surprisingly, Grap wasn’t satisfied with the attack and thought about it better. It shows the level of destruction of the power of Grap.
Later, Graps said:
You fools! Who do you think you kidnapped!? Koby is the future of the Navy!
Episode 1114 is one of the best in the series, from the action sequences to the background music, and the impact frames while launching the attack are too perfect. It is impossible to watch the episode without mentioning how beautifully Toei animated the whole sequence. The scenes are beautiful in the manga, but the anime took things to the next level.
After seeing Grap’s potential in episode 1114, many questions come to mind, one of them being what would have happened if Sengoku hadn’t stopped in Marineford. This question is considered one of the most controversial in the One Piece community, with many believing that Grap could kill Akainu with Gallaxy Impact.
AKainu vs. Garp: How It Could Have Changed The Story
The most talked about moment in the One Piece community is when Akainu, the Current Fleet Admiral, killed Ace by punching a hole through history. This incident and his actions angered Grap so much that he was ready to attack him. In the Marineford Arc, Grap hardly moved from his place because he was doing his duty. However, after Akainu unfairly killed Ace, Grap wanted to punish him.
However, this did not happen due to the involvement of Sengoku, the former Fleet Admiral. He stepped in and prevented Grap from doing anything reckless. Grap and Sengoku are considered equal in terms of power and strength. Now, after witnessing the Vice Admiral’s power, it looks like Sengok made the right decision. Or else Akainu would lose his life for sure.
An angry Grawp would cause trouble for Akainu and also bring chaos to the Marines’ camp. This would have allowed pirates to gain the upper hand, destroying Marineford. Considering an old grap has this much potential, one can only imagine what the Vice Admiral would have been capable of achieving in his prime. Not to mention, he was considered the equal of Gol D. Roger.
In his heyday, Grap competed with Gol D, Roger. He was the online Marine who cornered Roger and came closer to killing him. However, Roger respected him for it and treated the Marines as if they were his friends. Aside from fighting Roger, Grap is involved in many top-secret missions, one being the God Valley Incident. This was the first time Vice Admiral teamed up with Pirate King to defeat Rocks Pirates. After defeating the Rocks Pirates, Grap received the title of Marine Hero, which he doesn’t like.
Unlike most of the strong characters in One Piece, Monkey D. Grap does not have any Devil Fruit. He relies on his Haki and physical strength to get the job done. In his younger days, Grap would practice by crushing the mountains with his fist and punching the bow of a Marine ship. Doing so increased his physical strength and Haki so much that he didn’t require Devil Fruit.

Can The Current Version Of Grap Beat Kuzan?
Toward the end of One Piece Episode 1122, Kuzan defeats Grap by stabbing him with an ice rod. The former Admiral is working for the Blackbeard Pirates, so it is his responsibility to protect Hachinosu and capture Grap. Kuzan is one of the fan-favorite characters and the powerful one who holds himself against Akainu for ten days — despite an elemental advantage, proves that Kuzan Haiki is phenomenal, and it is something that can’t ignored.
However, his victory against Grap came after the Vice Admiral was unfairly stabbed while protecting Koby. After looking at the status, Grap could beat Kuzan if it is a fair fight.
Animeking: Summary
