The Jujutsu Kaisen franchise is expanding once again. In the 41st issue of Weekly Shonen Jump, published on September 7, 2025, it was officially revealed that the previously teased collaboration between Jujutsu Kaisen creator Gege Akutami and Cipher Academy illustrator Yuji Iwasaki is a brand-new Jujutsu Kaisen spinoff manga titled Jujutsu Kaisen ≡ (Modulo).
The manga, described as a fixed short-term series, debuted with a 54-page opening chapter including a full-color spread, and was also featured on the issue’s cover. Akutami confirmed in a note that the series will run for around half a year, amounting to approximately three collected volumes—“as long as the manga is not canceled,” he added.

Expansion of the Jujutsu Kaisen Franchise
The announcement goes beyond the manga. Weekly Shonen Jump revealed several other upcoming projects tied to the Jujutsu Kaisen brand, reinforcing its position as one of modern shonen’s biggest franchises.

- Horror novelist Yumeaki Hirayama, best known for his works such as Diner, will write a brand-new Jujutsu Kaisen spinoff novel. While details remain scarce, the involvement of a horror author hints at darker thematic storytelling.
- A special exhibition for the anime’s second season will run from December 5–29, 2025 at Sunshine City in Ikebukuro, Tokyo, showcasing art, storyboards, and interactive experiences for fans.
- The mobile and PC game Jujutsu Kaisen: Phantom Parade will introduce an original in-game storyline on September 23, 2025.

Recap: Jujutsu Kaisen’s Journey So Far

Created by Gege Akutami, Jujutsu Kaisen began serialization in Weekly Shonen Jump in March 2018 and concluded in September 2024 after 30 volumes. The anime adaptation began airing in October 2020 and rapidly became a global sensation.
- Season 1 (2020–2021): 24 episodes covering early arcs.
- Jujutsu Kaisen 0 Film (2021–2022): Prequel film released worldwide, highly acclaimed.
- Season 2 (2023): Adapted “Hidden Inventory / Premature Death” and “Shibuya Incident” arcs across two cours.
- Compilation Films (2025): Retelling of key arcs, including Jujutsu Kaisen: Execution, set for release on November 7 in Japan and December 5 in North America.
- Season 3 (2026): Adapting the Culling Game Arc, beginning in January 2026. MAPPA will continue animation production.
Why Jujutsu Kaisen ≡ (Modulo) Matters
The new spinoff manga marks a significant step for the franchise. Instead of a side-project handled by unrelated artists, it brings Akutami back into Weekly Shonen Jump with direct involvement alongside Yuji Iwasaki, maintaining thematic consistency and world-building.
With the addition of a horror-novel spinoff by Yumeaki Hirayama, upcoming anime events, and continued adaptations, Jujutsu Kaisen is solidifying not just its status as a bestselling manga but also as a long-lasting multimedia franchise on par with Naruto, Bleach, and One Piece.
