The fifth season of the Kingdom anime recently concluded its 13-episode run after premiering in January 2024. Like its predecessor, the fifth season was streamed internationally by Crunchyroll as it aired in Japan, bringing the thrilling battles to a global audience.
Kingdom first made its anime debut in 2012 with a first series, followed by a second in 2013. Both of these initial seasons were streamed in North America by Funimation, who also released them on DVD in 2016. The third series premiered in April 2020 but faced a temporary hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It resumed airing in April 2021, restarting from the first episode. Funimation also streamed the third series as it aired. The fourth series then premiered on NHK General in April 2022, with Crunchyroll once again providing international streaming.
Yasuhisa Hara’s historical manga, which launched in Shueisha’s Weekly Young Jump magazine in 2006 and has achieved record-setting popularity, centers on the journey of the orphaned slave boy Xin and his ambitious dream of becoming a great general for the state of Qin during the Warring States period of ancient China. Alongside Ying Zheng, the young and determined king of Qin who shares his vision of a unified China, Xin navigates the political turmoil and brutal warfare of the era, striving to become a commander capable of leading armies against the other Seven Warring States.
Adding to the excitement for international fans, Viz Media is scheduled to begin releasing the Kingdom manga in English starting in November of this year.
