One of the popular manga which had a live adaptation in 2023, is set for anime adaptation in 2025. Written and illustrated by Yama Wayama, the manga ‘Lets Go Karaoke!’ is set to be produced as an anime by Studio Doga Kobo, the house to Oshi No Ko and Captivated by You.

Synopsis of Let’s Go Karaoke
Let’s go Karaoke is about a yakuza lieutenant who seeks guidance in singing karaoke from the high school choir head. Satomi Oka, who is a third – year head of a junior high school choir, is working on his preparations for his final performance before graduation. Kyouji Narita, a yakuza lieutenant on seeing Oka perform, approaches him to help him with singing, as he wishes to participate in the annual karaoke competition held by his boss.
Development of the plot
The creator Yama initially approached a manga magazine for writing a plot that involved the yakuza somehow. Her idea was turned down, and then she decided to do a doujinshi publishing (self-published manga). She decided to make a story with ‘bromance’ as the major plot driving the story.
A live-action movie was adapted from the manga, which was directed by Nobuhiro Yamashita – premiered in January 2024.

What to expect from Let’s Go Karaoke anime?
The story centers around the unlikely friendship between a high school senior and a yakuza lieutenant, where they come together to bring in laughter and light-heartedness to the table. A high-school choir head being kidnapped and talked in by a gangster to coach him to improve his singing abilities is something unimaginable for a plot. With this quirky yet an unhinged take of a gangster working on winning a contest so as to avoid humiliation, Let’s Go Karaoke! boasts for a fun ride. With the manga being an audience favourite, the live-action did not fail to live up to the expectations as well, being acclaimed as one of the top favourites in the Camera Japan Film Festival. A lot of heart, fun plot with less drama and angst – Let’s Go Karaoke is one of the most anticipated animes of 2025.
